Survey
The survey was offered to the students following the focus groups and included similar questions to those explored. The questions were:
1 Have you experienced 'Flow' or 'Being in the zone'?
2 Are there particular activities where you experience flow in the most? What are they?
3 When you experience flow, are there any particular environmental or other factors that help you to 'get in the zone'?
4 When in a state of flow do you experience any of the following?
· Loss of sense of time
· Lack of self consciousness
· Full concentration
· Complete involvement
· Freedom from worry about failure
· Enjoying doing something for its own sake
· Sense of joy and purpose
5 Do you experience flow at college, at home/outside college or both?
6 At college do you experience flow in any of the following contexts?
· Classroom based lessons
· Practical workshop based lessons
· Activities that have deadlines
· During group work
· During paired work
· During individual work or private study
· During 1:1 discussions with your lecturer
· Activities that require technical resources
· Performance
· Peer assessment
· Watching others perform or present work
· During discussion
· During active or game-based learning
7 Are there any other types of lesson or teaching you experience at college that help to 'get you in the zone'?
8 What do you think would help you to experience flow whilst learning? What could college do to help support this?
9 If you have flow-type experiences outside college, do you think there are elements of these experiences that could transfer to a college context? If so how?
